THAT'S A CAT WITH A VERY LONG TAIL

Here's part of the story of how these poems came to be, and how they came to be put aside for a long time.

1994. So many changes. The end of a relationship. New possibilities. Love. And love trouble.

And this new thing in my life - "word pieces." I started waking up with a line or 2 in my head - words usually meant to go with music, often with a melody. I would scribble down the words, and then let more words come into my mind, and scribble those down.

Many of the pieces were about moments of loving.

So many pieces. Dozens. 19 the first month. Such a flow.

Fast forward.

2006. That's the year I started my first website: Elsa's Word Story Image Idea Music Emporium. One part of it was for ideas. Another part was for poetry, spoken word, words and music. One by one, I put many of the pieces online.

I also learned how to get the search engines to notice them. Not easy. But I was determined to learn.

It was fabulous for me, getting an audience. Very satisfying.

Month after month, there were ever more page views.

The site peaked at about 60,000 page views a month - which is about 3/4 of a million views a year. A large portion of the views was for the poems. That continued for several years. It felt very good, to know people were reading my poems.

The poems have stayed online, and still get views. The site still gets 20,000 to 30,000 per month.

But it didn't feel like enough to me, that people were reading one piece or another.

Almost from the beginning, I saw the pieces as telling stories, different stories depending on the order of the pieces.

So I put together several "stories" - say, 20 poems linked together, telling a love story.

But I didn't find a way to turn the "stories" into performances. It was all daunting. There was no ready route.

So I created several short books, each with about 5 "moments of loving," each telling part of a love story.

Then I didnt know what else to do. I felt I was up against a wall - high, impenetrable. I didn't even look hard to get an audience for these mini-books.

I did go on. I collected some of the poems into 2 ebooks of love poetry. My hope: that I would be able to get lots of readers who loved the ebooks.

I created half a dozen webpages for the ebook, plus uploaded it to Amazon.

A couple of these webpages got about 3000 views a month.

But there were almost no buyers from my site, and none at all from Amazon.

At some point, over a decade ago, I ran dry.

Also my main focus was shifting, to things that disturbed me in the world around me - like the taboo on good thinking.

Now I can feel a drive, a deep drive, to reach out again with the poems.
